Giving something back

Many, many moons ago, Mark was a nippy little, winger and used to play for Hanwood United. Then winter came along and he preferred a warm fire to a frozen pitch…

But recently he was contacted by former team mate, Stewart Dodd, who was seeking a possible kit sponsorship from Darwin ITC. Now Mark is a generous chap and with a smirk on his face and a skip in his step, he approached Minty with the idea. Mike is never one to pass up an opportunity for some good PR and so asked Mark to get back in touch with Stewart for further discussions.

Stewart informed Mark it would be a deal to sponsor their new training kit that they would be wearing both while training (obviously) and when travelling to matches. Looking good is something Mark takes pride in and helping other people look good is a personal mission for him.

So a deal was struck between Hanwood United and Darwin ITC, to supply Hanwood with their new Adidas training kit and to have Darwin ITC’s name on the chest. And in sponsoring Hanwood, Darwin ITC is in good company because the main shirt sponsor is no less than Ian Brown (the lead singer with Stone Roses!!!), cousin to Stewart.

When the kit arrived Mark went over to Hanwood to present Stewart and club captain Gary Price with the kit and have his picture taken for the local rag. Finally, as a token of Hanwood United’s appreciation, Darwin ITC were presented with one of the training tops, which is going to be framed and mounted on the wall of the office.

Racing for Life

Race For Life 2010 - Weston Park

Race For Life 2010 - Weston Park

Across the nation, women came out in force to support Race for Life. A series of 5km runs organised to help raise money and awareness for Cancer Research UK. Darwin ITC was proud to sponsor Sam Minton (Mike’s wife) and Sam Thompson (Roy Thompson’s wife) in their attempts.

Weston Park was the venue for their particular challenge on 18th July 2010. Both Sam’s families have been affected by cancer, Sam Minton’s father and Sam Thompson’s Grandfather both sadly lost their battles with the disease, making this a very emotional day.

Happily, Sam and Sam completed the run and raised over £300 for Race for Life and helped contribute to the £25,182,452 already raised to help in the fight against cancer. Everyone at Darwin ITC would like to express their congratulations to Sam Minton and Sam Thompson for completing the event and for raising a terrific amount of money. Our congratulations also go out to everyone who took part or sponsored a participant.

Marathon Man…..

I’m sure for many of us the last weekend in April was like any other weekend. The weekly shop, football, a few drinks maybe but for Minty this was going to be a weekend like no other. He was embarking on an epic feat that many, including myself, didn’t think was a realistic target. He was going to “run” the Virgin London Marathon. (more…)
